Overview
The Sovol SV08 is an open-frame CoreXY printer with a 350 x 350 x 345 mm build volume, a published 700 mm/s top speed and 40,000 mm/s² acceleration. It uses four independent Z motors for quad gantry leveling and ships with open-source hardware and software.
What it is
The Sovol SV08 is a large-format, open-frame CoreXY printer built around open-source hardware and software. Its design uses four independent Z motors with quad gantry leveling, an approach familiar to anyone who has followed Voron-style printers, but Sovol ships it about 90% pre-assembled with roughly one hour of setup. It remains in stock on Sovol's US store, and Sovol separately sells a larger SV08 Max.
Key specs that matter
From Sovol's official product page:
- Build volume: 350 x 350 x 345 mm, well above the 256 mm class that many printers at this price use.
- Motion: up to 700 mm/s print speed and 40,000 mm/s² acceleration, with a flow rate up to 30 mm³/s.
- Temperatures: nozzle up to 300 °C and hot bed up to 100 °C.
- Leveling: inductive and pressure sensors plus quad gantry leveling.
- Bed: PEI-coated steel plate.
- Electronics: H616 64-bit processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB eMMC and TMC2209 drivers.
- Connectivity: Ethernet and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (WPA2 only).
- Screen and camera: a 5 inch swappable touchscreen and a built-in camera for monitoring and timelapses.
- Slicers: OrcaSlicer, Cura, PrusaSlicer and Simplify3D are listed.
Who it suits
The SV08 fits buyers who want a big build plate and high published speeds at a moderate price, and who are comfortable working with open-source firmware. The large volume suits cosplay pieces, storage bins, large enclosures and batch printing many small parts at once. Tinkerers will appreciate that Sovol presents the hardware and software as open for modification.
What to know before buying
The base SV08 is an open-frame printer. Sovol sells an SV08 Glass Open Enclosure separately and offers SV08 bundles with an open enclosure, which list a reduced 330 mm build height. Without an enclosure, ABS and ASA are hard to print well, and the 300 °C nozzle limit rules out the hottest engineering filaments.
There is no official multi-color system for the SV08, so it is a single-material machine in its standard form. The Wi-Fi supports only WPA2 on 2.4 GHz networks, which may matter if your router uses WPA3 only.
At the time of writing, the US store listed the base SV08 at $529, down from a regular $599. Bundles with the enclosure, hardened steel nozzle kit or upgraded HDMI touchscreen cost more. The printer measures about 550 x 537 x 575 mm with the screen and spool holder, so plan for a large footprint.
Keep in mind that the 700 mm/s and 40,000 mm/s² figures are maximums. Real print times depend on the filament, part geometry and the 30 mm³/s flow limit of the hotend, so large solid parts will be limited by flow rather than travel speed. Sovol supplies a 0.4 mm nozzle and lists 0.2, 0.6 and 0.8 mm sizes, and a larger nozzle is often the more practical way to speed up big prints.
If you are deciding between the SV08 and the SV08 Max, start with the size of the parts you actually print. The standard SV08 already covers most large household and cosplay projects.

Pros and cons
Pros
- The 350 x 350 x 345 mm build volume is large for its price and suits big or batch prints.
- Sovol publishes a 700 mm/s top speed and 40,000 mm/s² acceleration for fast printing of large parts.
- Quad gantry leveling with four independent Z motors plus inductive and pressure sensors automates bed setup.
- Open-source hardware and software make it easy to modify, repair and upgrade.
- Ships about 90% pre-assembled, with Sovol quoting roughly one hour of setup.
- Ethernet, Wi-Fi and a built-in camera support remote monitoring and timelapse recording.
Cons
- No enclosure in the base package, so ABS and ASA are hard to print well without an add-on.
- The 300 °C nozzle limit rules out the highest-temperature engineering filaments such as some polycarbonate and nylon blends.
- There is no official multi-color or multi-material system for the SV08, so it prints one filament at a time.
- Wi-Fi supports only 2.4 GHz WPA2, which can be a problem on WPA3-only networks.
- Adding the optional enclosure reduces build height to 330 mm according to Sovol's bundle listings.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Sovol SV08 need assembly?
Sovol says it ships about 90% pre-assembled and takes roughly one hour to set up. Final steps involve attaching major components and running calibration.
Can the SV08 print ABS?
The hardware can reach ABS temperatures (300 °C nozzle), but the base printer is open-frame. Sovol sells separate enclosure kits, which are recommended for ABS and ASA.
Is there an enclosure for the SV08?
Yes. Sovol sells an SV08 Glass Open Enclosure separately, and the SV08 product page offers bundles with an open enclosure. Those bundles list a 330 mm build height.
What slicers work with the SV08?
Sovol lists OrcaSlicer, Cura, PrusaSlicer and Simplify3D, on Windows, macOS and Linux.
What is the difference between the SV08 and SV08 Max?
The SV08 Max is a separate, larger model that Sovol sells alongside the SV08. Sovol does not describe it as a replacement for the SV08.

Verdict
Buy the SV08 if you want a large build volume and high published speeds on a budget and are comfortable with open-source tuning. Look elsewhere if you need an enclosure out of the box, multi-color printing, or a plug-and-play ecosystem.
